Been away… we’re busy producing music.

•October 24, 2007 • 1 Comment

So this backroom blog experiment has been sorely neglected over the past few months as we’ve been busy launching our new music licensing blog at Burst Labs. It’s an integral part of our new production music library website, and we hope you’ll all drop in and say “hi.”

Be sure to let us know what kind of music you’d like to license for your productions, as we’re able to take requests now and enjoy being challenged with widely diverse styles and crazy cross-genres of music (think Indie Bolivian Worship Techno).

If you like production music libraries – and let’s be honest here, who doesn’t?! – browse our new production music website and listen to some of the demos and samples, then shoot us an email and request some bizarre new music. We’ll (try to) hit it out of the park for you!

More new music to come soon from The Burst Collective! Stay tuned to our production music RSS feed for immediate updates! [dh]

I have to agree with Chris over at Analog Industries, it is absolutely mind-blowing what 2 dollars got you in 1957. [ms]

Guitar Hero screen capture

Making music for a living is hard work. Whether we’re pitching a soft drink ad or making records, it still takes a lot out of us… though considerably more so when the client is present in the studio.

Sometimes a little Guitar Hero goes a long way when we’re in a creative rut and looking to break out of it.

I can’t be the only one totally jacked about the third installment of this fine piece of inspirational machinery… check out the list of tunes you could be playing along with (including a bunch of ORIGINAL recordings, to boot!). [dh]

We’ve been crazy busy getting everything up and running smoothly at the Lab, but we haven’t totally lost our sense of humor.

Here’s a parody of the Mac vs. PC ads that have become ubiquitous over the past year.

SERIOUSLY … can … not … wait … for the Wolverine and Avengers movies!! Super Sweet. [dh]

Comment further? And ruin a perfectly executed statement on pop culture and the current state of american music? Nah. [dh]

Prepare to be disturbed

•April 3, 2007 • 2 Comments

This has got to be the most complete and utter bastardization of not one, but two american icons, Kermit the Frog and Johnny Cash. And I mean that in the best way possible.

This has already gone viral, but if you haven’t seen it, prepare yourself.

I would imagine the creator is going to get a little love letter from Jim Henson Productions, but I think this would qualify as Fair Use (parody/satire). [ms]

The wonder of 8-bit audio

•March 21, 2007 • Leave a Comment

I don’t think it would be difficult to convince that I have more than a little geek in me. I like books about the origins of everyday things, discussions on the theological ramifications of LOTR, and I do enjoy a rousing 24-hour Final Fantasy bender. What REALLY excites me, though, is the music of the Nintendo Entertainment System.

And on that note…

Audio Overload is a cross-platform .NSF player (among other formats). What is an .NSF, you ask? An .NSF is a Nintendo sound file, extracted from the original game cartridge in all its 8-bit glory.

“But Matt, now that I have the player, how do I go about procuring these .NSF files for my own listening enjoyment?”

Well, young grasshopper, you could be a good little web denizen and Google them, or you could just rely on me to hand them to you.

“OK, Matt, I’ve grown tired of reliving my childhood through the magic of technology. How can I create my own 8-bit masterpieces, using the original NES sound chip?”

Funny you should ask… I present to you-

MIDINes

The MidiNes!

This beauty allows MIDI control of the NES sound chip. It is housed in a original cartridge, and could be yours for the explicity low price of $89.00 plus shipping. You should buy one.

I’d review it, but I don’t have one….
I just thought I’d throw that out there… [ms]
